A Universal Kitchen Design by Kd.

With its stock cabinetry, laminate countertops and freestanding appliances, the kitchen that was presented to Elisabeth Aiello by a recent client did not have much to offer in style, but even more importantly the kitchen it did not have much to offer in universal functionality. Opening up the space and making it wheelchair friendly was KD designer Elisabeth Aiello’s first priority in this remodeling project.
Taking down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room and eliminating the separate eating table immediately created a more comfortable, light and airy feel. By maximizing the space, Elisabeth was able to incorporate an island with seating for four. The island also holds the main sink allowing the homeowner to clean and prepare without having to turn his or her back. The cooking area became a beautiful focal point with the addition of a large mantle style hood, a 36″ professional cooktop and a custom designed recessed tile niche to keep oils and spices handy. Elisabeth also enhanced the function and design of the kitchen with the addition of a wet bar with glass door cabinetry and a desk with plenty of storage. With its new pristine look, the kitchen is now more usable than ever to the homeowner’s entire family.
