Every year, the National Kitchen & Bath Association sorts through hundreds of designs to find the best kitchens and baths in a variety of categories based on size, style and budget. Now that the anticipated 2012 Design Competition is over, the NKBA has reviewed the 500 design entries to find the trends that seem to be prevailing in today’s kitchen and bath design industry.
Based on themes that the NKBA noticed in the competition, one of the top trends for current kitchen and bath designs are glossy finishes and fixtures. The example that the organization chose to showcase this trend was a kitchen designed by Kd.’s own Jed MacKenzie! To achieve this stunning Bulthaup kitchen design, MacKenzie combined shimmering surfaces and high-sheen fixtures with strategically placed light accents for a space that is modern yet warm and inviting. Here’s how NKBA explains MacKenzie’s thoughtful design.
This kitchen is a fine composition of stainless steel, walnut wood veneer, and light reflecting off a vast Calcutta gold marble island top . . . it’s the sheen and shimmer against creamy walls and warm wood that breathes life into the interior space.
