The Future of Kitchen Design
Posted on May 15, 2011 by ejarrell
Tomorrow’s kitchens will resemble their current-day counterparts with a few significant changes. Studies conducted by the National Association of Home Builders explored the changes kitchens are expected to receive by 2015.
Future homes are estimated to become smaller and more efficient. As a result, many rooms, including the kitchen, are likely to become smaller. To create the illusion of space, open floor plans will dominate the market. Kitchens will share space with great rooms and eat-in kitchens or breakfast nooks. Some details won’t change. Breakfast bars have earned their long-term space in the kitchens of the future as well as double sinks and recessed lighting.
What’s likely to disappear? Kitchen islands are surprising losing favor as well as walk-in pantries. This is likely because overall home sizes will be smaller and such luxuries consume floor space. Kitchens are estimated to lose fireplaces, butler’s pantries and wine coolers all together.
