Minimalist design doesn’t have to be boring, and this newly remodeled kitchen by the bulthaup Denver team is a testament to that. Our goal for this transformation was threefold: reconfigure the layout for better flow; introduce high-quality, energy-efficient appliances; and implement chic materials that will withstand daily use.
To achieve a clean-lined look, we made thoughtful design decisions to conceal the space’s workhorse elements. The original kitchen’s overpowering gas range and hood were traded for a sleek induction cooktop and telescoping downdraft ventilation positioned in the center of the island. A side-by-side freezer/refrigerator unit was swapped out for modern versions tucked within aluminum-paneled built-ins, the focal point of the revamped kitchen. And seamless, touch-to-open cabinetry downplays the ample storage space incorporated throughout.
A haven for home chefs, the revamped kitchen features an array of state-of-the-art appliances. A combination steam oven, microwave, and conventional oven anchor the greige-hued built-ins, which also house a convenient coffee station. The cantilevered island provides plenty of space for meal prep while doubling as a low-profile eating nook.
To combat wear and tear, we selected durable finishes that exude elegance—from easy-to-clean aluminum wall/backsplash panels and laminate cabinets to stainless countertops and toe kicks. The sandy-beige metallic tones add warmth and subtle shine to the sophisticated space.
Lighting was paramount in this project and, due to the sloped ceilings, proved to be one of the most challenging feats of the renovation. We worked with a lighting designer to install recessed LED down lighting in a square shape—which echoes that of the skylights—a trio of minimalistic sconces above the sink, and uplighting above the built-in cabinet wall for an airy, ethereal feel. To highlight the reflective, satin-like quality of the aluminum panels, we installed a recessed LED channel where the ceiling and wall meet. Equipped with Lutron controls, each light source can be adjusted to best suit the time of day or task at hand.
